Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend  Next Entry
you always embarass the one you love....
Not too many of you know this (though there was some speculation when the first pictures of Bean in his Troy wig appeared), but when the Bros. Mir were young, there was a huge Queen revival in Gondor.... (honestly, is that Brian May and Roger Daltry's Love Child?)

I can't promise there isn't a Killer Queen of the Desert cd cover in the works....

In the Spring, there was a half hour interview show with David on Aussie tv. Because my friends are the best, [info]avon7 taped it for me.

Jim and I are currently trying to learn to transfer PAL tapes to a digital form that can be shared. So far the experiment is not good, quality wise, and everything sounds like it was taped in a motor boat. But, off this terrible transfer, I was able to take some (ok, lots) of caps of David's interview, with accompanying clips from the OZ press and a small but choice selection of very very early David. ("Please, no more from the vault," he groans at one point.)

So inside you will find some shots of David in The Crucible
(yes, that's what that really is) and also a few interview shots, just because, you know, his face...

I honestly didn't pick these pictures in the hopes of getting a plaintive phone call or email, saying "But I thought you loved me! What will it take to get you to take these down?"

much

What IS with the last picture??? You must explain.

So have you gotten NTSC to digital going? Or is that simply starting out poor quality? I still yearn for AtD on dvd.

I also wonder if there is a reasonably simple audiotape to cd conversion, and yes, I will write Jim about it.

Last pic- this interview was taped shortly before Eliza jane was born, so the show's crew picked out this team jumper as a baby gift - David is a (fairly rabid, I hear) supporter of the Sydney Swans. (Aussie Rules footie)

We have had one successful attempt at NTSC to digital - with basilisk Stare, which is only 15 minutes long. The problem (Jim may correct me here) seems to be that since tapaes have nothing like a chapter division, the entire tape has to be recorded at real time into the computer, then converted, then burned to disc.

Space was a consideration, but I think we have solved that (they are huge though, and should be bigger still to get good quality) but the converter we are using (Borrowed) keeps ending a tape early.

We are currently investigating / looking into better technology, since we are approaching anniversary present time, and that looks like a good *to each other* idea.

He *always* works from the Deluge discs, in the hope that we will get one successful transfer. But I have heard a rumour of ATD on zone one discs soon.

I also have the first Murray Whelan movie, also a gift from Avon, so I am hoping to get this project working. Jim is taking a series of Mondays off (He has accumulated too many vacation days) and we seem to get the most done on those *stolen* days.

I will shut up now. You people are amazing! I'm still struggling with rewritable dvds.*g*

In case J didn't mention it to you, she is very much enjoying her portion of the Oysterband bounty. Love spreading it around.

I am *always* glad to spread the oysterband love. I wish it came to America more often. I am reall really glad in retrospect thatwe saw them three times when they were last here, since that was the tour when they decided America didn't pay enough to tour, especially when Europe eats them with a spoon.

Are you looking to do audiotape to cd conversion yourself? You should, really get in touch with Jim, because he since he is looking into which machines do what anyway, he can keep a mental list of good possibilities.

He say you will have a *much* greater range of workable things, because so many more are made for the PC than the Mac.

***hugs** yay you!!

I'll bet you didn't expect to see me tormenting the locals when you taped for me. I can't tell you what a wonderful side benefit it is to have global friends.

There should be something in your mail one of these days as well...

Figures. I finally assemble the software bits and expertise to do a good (not great, but quite good) all digital NTSC to PAL DVD conversion and it will probably be out before I figure out how to shrink the sound track to get it back in sync with the video... not to mention recreating the chapter markers and menus...

The caps of David as Louis XV are from a PAL format VHS tape played through Chris's multi-system tape deck. It does no internal conversion so what comes out matches what's on the tape - in this case, PAL format. It then went into a digitizer that encoded it into Digital Video on my Mac. Turns out the borrowed digitizer is NTSC only, so with the differing frame rate and other mis-matches between formats, the video came out so-so, but the sound track has a loud motorboat sound over it. We need to get either a hardware PAL <=> NTSC converter or a digitizer that processes both NTSC and PAL (though, then I'll have to do the PAL to NTSC conversion on my G5 - we'll see how the converted AtD looks to decide on if we should go for a hardware or software converter.)

*snork*

When I say that is a 'bad' wig - I really do mean, that is a bad wig!! Oh dear - poor boy! Still, I'm sure most actors have an 'unfortunate' early appearence trapped somewhere in their archives. ;)

Our theory is that you can prove it is Australian Theater, because David is wearing a Sheep on his head.

(It really does look like shorn but uncarded wool, doesn't it! Poor thing. And I'll bet it was itchy and hot.) Still, I have worse earlier things to post... like his yearbook photo

Methinks they did not use the same people who made the wigs for Lord of the Rings. That thing looks absolutely flammable.

I'm not sure how old those are, but guessing by what it came between, I would guess maybe 1990 or 91? He manages to look unconcerned, but it really is an unfortunate wig.

No idea - they are talking to David about acting school in voiceover while they show some early tv and theater clips Hamlet, Big Red, etc.) You can hear him say "As for the witch, let her deny...." it has obvioulsy been too long since I read The Crucible, especially as timely as it is at the moment.

Here's a full body shot, if that helps
