In my defense, one of the reasons I don't see more movies is my friends. Specifically, Chris (and if she sees this - the truth is the truth.) My friends say -Don't see that without me!! And then I call to make plans and find they have, in fact, gone without me. (they are "spontaneous") I go to see what they want, because when I pick the movie, they all say "We don't want to see that." (and I wanted to see "About a Boy??") I sit through enough chick flicks and sappy romances that I should be allowed to pick now and then, even if it turns out to be a stinker. If I had to sit through Sliding Doors, they should have to sit through a movie about Shackleton. They made me go to Armegedon, The Avengers... The last time we tried a compromise, we ended up each picking half a double feature that turned into Memento and Mummy II, We have not tried that again.
Anyway -- I encountered this article on 100 MOVIES THAT DESERVE MORE LOVE that I thought some of you (helveticat) might find interesting.
I admit I cringe at some of these picks, just based on who is in them. And I bristle at this: "They're films from our lifetime of experience, which is why you won't see deserving films from the pre-1970 era."
But though I have only seen a handful of the things on this list - I own nearly every one I have seen. They would definitely inform my own favorites list. (maybe not best, but certainly favorite)
And I just added the others I had seen to my "to order" bin - though they have to wait, cause I have some fileg-must-have titles above them (Like the Box Set of Alec Guiness) that these life-began-in-the-70s kids have missed.
