inklings

Some of you have heard me ramble on about The Inklings - a book discussion group that got me involved with online fandom. We discussed LoTR chapter by chapter, rambling about symbolism, mythology and even writing and storytelling. It was my first exposure to on line fandom, and they let me blither about sun symbolism in Roham, solstice parallels, and the importance of loving Faramir for so long. I loved it, and I wished I had come in at the beginning, because those Hobbity chapters never moved me as much - and I was learning to look harder at all the chapters, not just the ones I love. I also failed to finish with them because an unexpected death close to me made it too hard to think about sacrifice and valour. But I miss the interaction very much, and many of my story ideas came from trying to untangle my thoughts there.

The line has been quiet since we finished the chapter discussions, except for flurries around the movies (it is not a stodgy group, plenty of related subjects are thrown around - just actor squeeage for its own sake is kept to a bare minimum.

Anyway - the point is, they are about to start again sometime this or next week with chapter one. And since it is a very small group, they are looking for opinionated folks who love to talk about the story.

If you are interested in joining, or even just checking it out, we are here. (poke around in the older parts if the archive and get an idea of what the actual book discussion was like) I am looking forward to it.
