And yes, I am a LoTR consumer's dream. It is lovely to be a two-obsession household and buy LoTR gear we want as presents for each other... (right... presents... not for *me*...) And it was Jim who was the comic fan and turned me on to wanting action figures 25 years ago. I was blissfully unaware that I wanted to sleep with a plush InuYasha -- who knew?
Big Bad Toy Store:
Joel is great to deal with, and has gone out of his way to be helpful several times. Jim and I found them when we were originally buying the WETA busts of Aragorn and Boromir - they had the best prices, answered our questions promptly, delivered what they promised.
Because so many of the things we wanted sold out before they ever got out of the home port, I just deal with the source. Besides, they are great and I squeal like a kid every time a box gets delivered.
The Outer Reaches:
My canadian connection. Not always cheap, and shipping from canada, but they frequently have the LoTR figures months ahead of us. And they got me some way out-of-print style stuff, like my statue of Vincent Valentine...
Figurines For All:
I met these guys through an ebay buy. They were nice, easy to deal with and had the Faramir in armour, Merry in Rohan armour, and the very beautiful witch-king months ago. They are not as knowledgable about the merchandise, but if *you* know what you're after, you should do fine. (He did tell me he had Boromir in armour, but sent the repackaging of the FoTR Boromir. He offered to take them back but a couple of extra Boromir figures are never really extra, now are they? The two that he sent me have already been adopted.)
We also deal with Monsters in Motion (Jim's Harryhausen statues came from there, and the Lawrence of Arabia that I preordered for Annaliese...( Dont look, Annaliese!) I have the 18 inch Aragorn on order from them. We were looking at the Thunderbird ships before, but Jim has the old metal corgi Thunderbird 2 with T4 in its belly (a yule gift from Lee some years back) so nothing looks as good to him.
And Jim and I watch Raving Toy Maniac - they don't sell, they review. Keeps us in the loop, and besides, the reviews make us Howl with laughter. ex: Let's just say you shouldn't hold out for a Return Of The King Haldir figure... (Scroll down and look at the bust of wolverine if you ever loved a canadian man....)
Action Figure Express:
Some of my Armies of Middle Earth came from these guys. They have good listings for preorders, but I don't know them as well.
My other scores were from ebay. I will tell you that I felt foolish at the time paying almost $40 for the autographed ranger faramir figure - who knew the figures themselves would soon go for more than that!
(I was quite a cranky camper for a while - I used to be able to just buy Faramir or David items on ebay when I wanted them. I was quite put out when I started having to compete for them. Latecomers! (G)
