Comedy is hard...

Just received this poster layout from Lee, who seems intent on making me laugh until I have done myself physical harm this week. Lee does lots of posters for Local Theater in Portland and in Charlottesville, VA where they used to live. (You guys should see the Stinky Cheese Man - or Redwall - or, wait, I know! The version of the MacBeth poster that I own! Must get off couch and use scanner sometime tonight...) So I wondered if this was done for a real project:

Clinton will be directing the Cherry Orchard next semester in his masters program at UVA. I do all his posters. In this case he plans to do the piece as a comedy which both he and Chekhov swear it is.

But this creates a huge problem. Theatergoers will simply not laugh at Chekhov as they've been told repeatedly his work is "serious". So we need to soften up the audience in advance and make them understand a little of what they'll see- ITS A COMEDY!

If we can persuade the audience to approach it properly, there's no doubt in my mind that Clinton will triumph in an unprecedented fashion.

This is just one of several odd (but I think hilarious [i crack myself up]) ads that we need to start putting out there. I'll send others as they get done.

I also thought you (and your online pals) would enjoy it.
