I tried my best to catch up to people I wanted to comment to last night, and for the third time in 2 weeks I lost my connection and could not get out to LJ. Last time is was comcast, but at 6:30 this morning in was LJ, since I could load other sites with no problem. Some of you (Kortirion and Avon in particular) have now had multiple responses swallowed by LJ when I hit the send button and get the *server is read only at the moment* message. So I am moving forward, and making some time to actually write this weekend. I will catch up if I can, but I wanted to say I was thinking about you...
yesterday, after more than a year, I received an issue of Sumo World in the mail. It was dated May 2004, so I am still woefully out of date on standings, but I was very happy to have beautiful pictures to look at again. I don't suppose any of you are Sumo fans? The Sumo World website has not been updated in over a year, and I wondered if I was missing issues or if they had been on hiatus...
And for the three of you I recently had this discussion with: I got the new issue of the LOTR fanclub magazine today (#16) with Gamling on the cover, and still no Faramir. If you want to write too, the address is firstname.lastname@example.org and
I have all the issues of your magazine, and I look forward to each new one. The quality of the pictures is astounding and the articles are always interesting.
But where is Faramir?
Today I received issue 16, with Gamling (Bruce Hopkins) featured on the cover. I love Gamling and Hama in the books, and I am happy to see recognition going to all the actors in the vast story we love so much.
But where is Faramir?
Surely if Gamling can have a cover, Faramir could have an article somewhere? He is a very large part of what makes the story work for me, and he is conspicuously ignored in coverage and merchandise. He barely gets mentioned in the article on Denethor.
(And I really hope you are not holding him back to feature him only with Eowyn when the extended edition comes out. That is only one small part of his story, and Eowyn has already been featured with a cover and an article. It's Faramir I want, on his own merit)
as to other plans, I am hoping to see edrys on Sunday, on her way back to Boston. Jim wants to go see the Thunderbirds movie on cheap-date night (I think he's afraid it won't last a whole week in the theaters)
and tomorrow we are doing dinner and anime at Chris's (elladans_witch) I really need to schedule some writing time, but Chris is doing her cooking for the week, so we get to play smorgasbord - always a good thing. And the big reason we are getting together is to amuse our friend Christopher Quinn, and keep him busy and occupied.
Some of you know about Christopher - he appears as Gimli in my story Gifts of Life, and he is also infamous for kneeling in a kilt in the front row of my wedding pictures.
Chris was asked to remove an ancient air conditioner that had died from it's casing at work, and install the new one. He has complained to us in the past about the uselessness of the two guys who work in the office with him, but have never done any of the manual labor (Chris is a master carpenter). He got them to help slide the monster out of the wall, and said -"Now we are going to lower it to the dolly." He bent down with his end, and the other two guys just stood there. One let go.
The air-conditioner turned in the air, and Chris managed to scramble out from underneath, but it hit him in the face and chest. He looked up at the two guys, still just standing there, and asked "Am I bleeding?" and one of them nodded.
The corner of the air-conditioner had caught him at the bottom of his eye, and flayed his cheek open to the chin. He has two layers of stitches at the moment, and his plastic surgeon talked him into staying home till Monday.
When he called me, he began the conversation by saying "At least I was never pretty to begin with." And I assured him his SCA persona would benefit from a handsome scar. And he ended by telling me, with relief, that they had managed to save his mustache, (the pride of his celtic life.)
Currently, I am: Hoping for no more excitement.....
