for the "flight" challenge at tolkien_weekly
Disclaimer: I mean no disrespect to the Professor or his estate,
and thank them forever for the characters and canvas on which I play
The need came from the deep places in my own heart.
Though I knew he loved me, I always felt three paces behind – running, always running to catch up.
And when I did run, he took white sails for wings, and once again left me to pursue him.
At last I gave my own heart flight, and took these white wings for my own. I gave up hopes of landings and of home and chose, like the albatross, the life of the air.
Buoyed on the sea winds, I outpaced him, ship and sail and all ….
for a moment.
