That's nice, Max...

Back in April, we had dinner with friends and as we were leaving the restaurant, John asked me if I would keep his birthday open, since he was hoping to surprise us.

That may sound backwards, but John is one of those people who has never been comfortable accepting a present, so they best present I can give him is to enter into the spirit of the thing, and do my best not to find out what he's planning. He has done this several times, and we always end up having a great time, but since he was leaving me with four months of lead time, I knew he was up to something special.

He was nearly bursting when we got together tonight, and he managed to get us into the car, into Princeton, and all the way to the people ripping tickets in McCarter Theater before he had to show us what was printed on our tickets.

So, we spent the evening is spectacular seats, immersed in the cabaret music and culture of the 20's and 30's with the amazing Max Raabe and his Palast Orchester.

Link to concert report in Jim's journal, since he did all the scanning and link finding...
