I am having trouble getting words to want to be on the page instead of in my head.
many thanks to mrkinch and austin for prodding me. I owe you big time.

Bowing to Finduilas, he lightly stroked the baby’s downy head in greeting. The child had been anointed only hours before, and Thorongil found himself with the oil used to consecrate Gondor’s future leaders clinging to his fingertips. It gave him a chill, and he pulled his hand back, startled. But the movement attracted the baby, who reached up and grasped his fingers, smiled in delight and refused to let go.

“He has quite a grip,” he said as Denethor hurried over to take the child in his own arms.

“Someday, he will hold Gondor with it,” the baby's father replied.
